1. 过去完成时的意义
过去完成时表示到过去某一时间为止或在过去某一时间或某一动作之前已经发生或完成了的动作，即表示动作发生的时间是 “过去的过去”。
2. 过去完成时的构成
过去完成时由 “had（用于各种人称和数）＋过去分词” 构成。其各种句式如下：
（1）肯定句
主语＋had＋过去分词…
●Ihad learnedover 1,000 English words by the end of last term. 到上学期期末，我已经学了一千多个英语单词。
（2）否定句
主语＋had＋not＋过去分词…
●When I came back home,hehadn't gottenhome yet. 我回到家的时候，他还没到家。
（3）一般疑问句
Had＋主语＋过去分词…?
肯定回答：Yes,主语＋had.
否定回答：No,主语＋ hadn't.
●—Hadhearrivedat the village before 8 o'clock last night? 昨晚8点之前他到达这个村庄了吗？
—Yes,he had./No,he hadn't.是的，他到了。/不，他没到。
（4）特殊疑问句
疑问词＋had＋主语＋过去分词…?
●—How long had he studiedFrench by the end of last year? 到去年年底时，他已经学了多长时间的法语了？
—For three years. 三年了。
3. 过去完成时的用法
（1）过去完成时用于表示过去某一时间之前已经发生或完成了的动作。常见标志有by the end of等。
●Shehad collectedover 1,000 stampsby the end oflast month. 到上个月月底，她已经收集了一千多张邮票。
（2）过去完成时用在said,told,knew,heard,realized等词后的宾语从句中。
●Hesaid(that) hehad never been toParis. 他说他从没有去过巴黎。
（3）过去完成时用在含有when,before,by the time等引导的时态为一般过去时的时间状语从句的主从复合句中。
●Beforehe arrived,Ihad already arrived. 在他到达之前我已经到达了。
