形容词作定语修饰名词时，要放在名词的前边。但是如果形容词修饰以-thing 为字尾的词语时，要放在这些词语之后。

We saw something white in the dark.

我们在黑暗中看到了一些白色的东西。

Is there anything important in the newspaper?

报上有什么重要新闻吗？

There is nothing（=isn't anything）important in the newspaper.

报上没什么重要事情。

注意

no = not…any

nothing= not…anything
